About Us
Of the approximately 60 million Americans who voted for the Republican ticket in 2008, over 22 million of those voters came from the bluest, or most Democratic, quintile of American counties.
These are Americans who are essentially disregarded as irrelevant by politicians and the media, and are made to feel that their votes don’t matter.
But by buying into this narrative ourselves, conservatives are giving the political left a free pass on their home turf. This is a serious strategic mistake, and at Ricochet, we’ve opened up a new front in the war against big government thinking.
Many of us at Ricochet live in places where we're seriously outnumbered by the Left. Cities like New York and San Francisco; college towns like Cambridge, Austin, and Ann Arbor; and enclaves like West Hollywood. In fact, two-thirds of Ricochet's visits come from the bluest 20% of counties.
This does not mean we're a "centrist" site—our community consists of people with outlooks from center-right to the really, really conservative to the libertarian. If anything, living behind left-wing lines has given us an ideological resiliency by forcing us to deal with daily challenges to our opinions.
Our mission is two-fold: excellent and addictive conversation characterized by frankness, wit, civility, and respect; and a mutual aid society where conservatives can give and receive help in winning arguments with their liberal friends and neighbors.
We’re proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the mainstream media’s image of conservatives as backward, knuckle-dragging fools couldn’t be farther from the truth—and we’re having a lot of fun doing it.
