Bio

I'm a truck driver. It sounds funny to say that since I really wanted to be one when I was a kid. The truth is that I move missiles around a navy weapons facility. I assuage my guilt of being on the government payroll by the fact that it's defense and not HUD or some other useless federal entity. I joined Ricochet mostly because it feels like a trip to Hollywood with all the stars out walking the streets to be able to converse with the likes of Peter Robinson, John Woo, Rob Long, Victor Hanson, and others. I recently finished my degree in political science at American Military University and hope to find some use for it eventually. If you would like to contact me directly email kingprawn at centurytel.net.

I've recently started blogging about spiritual things.

Rachel Lu: It's just supposed to happen that the Holy Spirit sweeps you up and declares the truth of the (Mormon) Gospel! What's *your* problem?! · 5 minutes ago

This can be a problem in Pentecostal churches as well. Those who aren't "moved by the Spirit" are left as outsiders. The temptation to "fake it till you make it" can be very strong, especially for those who are young temporally or spiritually. As for me, I'll stick with Paul's list of fruits from Galatians 5 if I want to test my faith.

skipsul: The real mistake here is in Congress delegating away its powers.  It is on Congress to set and enforce limits.  The failure to do so is the heart of our troubles. · 14 minutes ago

This is my thinking on it. The battle should be between the elected branches with the judicial only refereeing the fight. Perhaps a chain linked octogon instead of a committee room is a more appropriate venue.

...and began singing "A Might Fortress Is Our God."

You haven't heard it sung until you've heard Steve Green sing/proclaim it. He did this at the big Promise Keepers event in D.C. a decade or so ago. It was pretty close to the experience Rachel writes about when I heard it then.

The King Prawn: From The Hill:

Acting IRS chief Steven Miller on Friday said he did not believe agency officials did anything illegal when giving extra scrutiny to conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

This one reminds me of Al Gore in the 90's, when faced with charges of illegal campaign contributions from monks.  His press appearance painfully stated that there was .."no controlling legal authority..", arguing that therefore, the contributions were legal.

Nothing is new under the sun.  Nothing to see here - move along. · 24 minutes ago

There's the nub of the problem. The 10th Amendment is the "controlling legal authority" in all cases of power not specifically delegated to the national government. These jackwagons have it exactly backwards. They believe any power not specifically denied them is automatically authorized. They start at 100% and work their way back rather than starting at 0% and working up as powers are granted by the "controlling legal authority."

Good thing I checked the main feed before I hit post...

I'm looking forward to seeing this!

But why now? If this was the end game all along, why only under this administration has such grievous occurences come to light? Have they been happening all along and we didn't know about it, or is there something about this set of top level leaders that inspire/direct/allow this to occur?

Well, it's certainly been happening all along. We've been complaining about progressivism in our institutions for decades. But I think when you've got a President appointing all of his fellow travelers to positions of influence and power, then it's as if every sleeper agent is suddenly activated at once. Whatever lingering fear that they'd be found out is brushed aside by the glowy feeling that "we are the ones we've been waiting for!" · 1 minute ago

Maybe it's because I work for DoN vice IRS, EPA, HUD, etc, but I don't see rampant progressivism among my coworkers. A few meatheads that voted for Obama due to a lack of political convictions, but no socialists here.

The King Prawn
DrewInWisconsin: KC, I think what you're saying here is that these people didn't have to be told by anyone in authority over them to oppress conservatives and spread progressivism, because they've received that order and that message throughout their lives. In all the institutions of education they've moved through, in all the little agencies they've worked in, in every little pocket of government where they've been cozily residing, that message --progressivism uber alles -- is just part of the air they breathe.

But why now? If this was the end game all along, why only under this administration has such grievous occurences come to light? Have they been happening all along and we didn't know about it, or is there something about this set of top level leaders that inspire/direct/allow this to occur?

tabula rasa: My great-uncle taught history in my little rural high school (he was on the cusp of retirement) .  At this point, I don't actually remember what was taught (I think we mostly shot the bull a lot), but I do know that no history was taught.

In his case, there was nothing ideological about it.  He was just plain lazy and did not want to bother with teaching or grading exams.  He wanted a smooth glide path to actual retirement.  If there was ever a case for testing to assure some teaching is taking place, he is the poster teacher.

But at least he subscribed to the "first do no harm" rule.  He didn't cause me to hate history. · in 2 minutes

In the military we call this the ROAD program: Retired On Active Duty.

So we have few options for the truth in all this.

  • This was directed from on high. Those directing it are malevolent and lying their democrats off to avoid responsibility for their evil.
  • This was all orchestrated at low levels by people who went rogue to impress their betters. In which case those on high are feckless and lying their democrats off to avoid responsibility for their ineptitude.
  • Both those on high and those in the trenches are using the power of government to target their political enemies. This means our bureaucracy (which is a problem by its mere existence) has been politicized and is now both dangerous and evil.

There are no good options.

Ironically, one of my best and worst teachers was the same woman. Her name was Miss Pruitt. She was maybe 4'8'', in all directions. She taught Algebra I. The problem with her was that she graded all homework assignments. They counted for 50% of the grade. Needless to say, I failed that class miserably with a 54% for the year. (The next Algebra I teacher only graded test, and I finished with a 93%.) But, Miss Pruitt believed in me. After failing every 6 week term for the year, she begged me before the last term to just pass that term and get greater than 90% on the final exam (which I was sure to do because I actually could do the math) so that I would squeak by with a 70% for the year. Her reason: she wanted me in her Algebra II honors class the next year. Something in her reasoning just didn't add up.

DrewInWisconsin: Also remember, Miller is just the scapegoat. They weren't so much acting on his behalf as on the behalf (and the spoken or unspoken request) of El Presidenté himself. · 0 minutes ago

Indeed, and a guy who's on his way out the door anyway makes for a great scapegoat. However, I think he gave something away in this quote. He laid out the governing philosophy of the entire administration: only Congress can bind the powers of government. This is a wholly faulty understanding of our system. Congress can only say how a thing is done, not whether or not it can be done.

I've spent too much time around the spiritually ecstatic while not having said experience to get overly worked up about it. It seems the more cognitive experience is closer to the norm here on Ricochet. Although I've had moments of heightened emotional sensation, I live more in the basic sense of metanoia (translated repent) which means to have a change of mind. In fact, sometimes a change of mind from not understand to understanding can be so profound as to be ecstatic and spiritual for me. I may never speak in tongues, but I do have Eureka! moments that are equally moving and fit better with who I am. My transformation comes through the renewing of my mind rather from emotional experience.

I just finished watching "The Killing" and it was fantastic. It's the only Seattle show I've ever seen that got lighting right. They still overdo the rain, but that's to be expected. I've lived here 20 years and only put my windshield wipers higher than intermittent a handful of times.

I second the Netflix originals.

Way ahead of you on that. Lindsey popped up on my "Nightwish" Pandora channel.

I wasn't going to put this on here, but...

whitewash

And let's not forget they went so far as to create a video of their own (at our expense, of course) to blame the attack on the youtube video as well. They went to extraordinary lengths to tell this particular lie.
